Written in the tradition of the successful Allen & Mike’s Really Cool Telemark Tips, with trail-tested tips full of solid advice, as well as more than humorous and helpful illustrations, Ultralight Backpackin' Tips is the ultimate guide for backpackers serious about traveling ultralight. Just a few of the top ten tips expounded upon in the book/5(). Download & edit the template. If you simply need a backpacking checklist, download the template as a PDF. To use this spreadsheet as a template for your own gear list, you must make your own copy. In a new tab or window, open the file Backpacking Gear List Template & Checklist.; If you do not have a Google account or if you prefer other software besides Google Docs, under “File” select.

Walmart Launches its Own Line of Technical Backpacking Gear. Since its acquisition of Moosejaw in , the retail giant has been working on a performance-oriented yet wallet-friendly collection for new hikers just getting into the game. I found a good selection of gear with familiar brand names in camping, like Coleman, Eureka, Energizer, Ozark Trail and Swiss Gear, names I’d known about for many years. For a backpack, I found an internal frame pack with side pockets, mesh front pockets, compression straps and integrated high visibility rain cover.

Hiking doesn't have to be gear intensive, but there's one piece of kit you absolutely can't ignore: your shoes. Which way you go depends on how you prefer to hike. If you're planning on going light and fast and carrying little, a pair of lightweight trail runners will keep you nimble. I love books, I love used book stores, I loved collecting books, and even struggled with getting rid of my books when downsizing for this trip. But I don’t really have room for a library in the back of my truck, so it’s awesome to be able to have a whole collection and selection of books on hand in such a tiny device.
